To whom it may concern:

There's a war on the health industry in this day and age. False propaganda and fear mongering plague our media, and people are lead along like sheep to the slaughter. We are lulled into belief that what is convenient, what is labeled to be "healthy", is okay and that we should take it at face value.

But it's not okay. It's not right. Nothing should be taken at face value.

The last few blog posts were done on labeling food and defining GMOs. This letter will be an introduction to the companies that affiliate with GMOs, namely those associated with Monsanto. Monsanto, a genetically modified see company and the largest in the world, is an astoundingly intimidating company that has been at the heart of agriculture for years now. For quite some time, there was very little food brands that they didn't own. Today, they are still a corporate giant.

For you, this should be a letter that covers most if not all of your questions that you may have about this company and what it means for you.

Monsanto was founded by John F. Queeny in 1901. The first chemical they created was known as Saccharin, an artificial sweetener. According to research, it is without food energy and is very sweet. Basically, it's pointless for your health. They didn't stop there though, and soon the creation of their first herbicide, "Ramrod Herbicide", was in existence. It wasn't long until they created well known weed killer Round Up to replace it.  Today, Round Up has had many recalls for the harmful effects.

So yes, they started creating chemical compounds for both food and agriculture. It wasn't until the 1980's that they were doing their first tests on plants with biotechnology. Soon, their first biotechnology product product hit the shelves: Posilac for cows. This is injected into the cows to increase their milk production. Today, this product is banned in the European Union, as well as many countries around the world, due to the side effects of it that include possible cancers (breast, colon, and prostate), rapid tumor and insulin growth, and many others. It is still used today in America.

          Think about that.

They started engineering seeds for insect-protected crops and climate resistant crops. They started engineering seeds that had the "Roundup Ready" pesticide in the genetics of the seed. Think about ingesting that. Would you feed your daughter or son that? But I want you now to forget all I've told you about the health problems of their seeds and chemicals. Pretend we're starting with a blank slate. What is there to dislike now? Their politics, for one.

If you control the food, if you control the water, you control the masses. You have a hold of people where it counts. Monsanto has control over 40% of the world's food, 80% over America's corn crops, and 90% of the soy market. According to the Monsanto Protection Act, no court is able to halt the planting of GMO crops even if their seeds are under a safety investigation. Seeds containing Round Up in their genetics can't be safe, but nothing's stopping it!

Stay strong though, friend! There is a revolution arising! People are waking up, realizing what is happening. More and more, new organic and non-GMO products are replacing GMOs on the store shelves. If you buy food, buy organic. If you can't, at least buy Non-GMO. Labels such as the "Non-GMO profject verified" label are so important to keep in mind while shopping.

I've only began to touch on the subject of Monsanto. Next week, I'll make a blog post on more of Monsanto. Not only does Monsanto have hold on our food, they are now getting into our medicine. They've just recently partnered with Bayer. So for now, I hope I have got you thinking. If you already new these things, are you spreading this information? With knowledge comes great responsibility.

It's time to shop and live more responsibly

Until next time, I wish you good health to you and yours.

                         Sincerely,

                                 Tina C. Potter

Monsanto's should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the F.D.A.'s job. - Phil Angell, Monsanto's director of corporate communications.
