Yeah, it's on the local news and I know a few people who may or may not have it.

I was going to do a post on charcoal this week, but I'm postponing it once again because this seems rather more important.  None of the information I am posting is new to my blog, but I have new readers (welcome!) and I figure even if y'all have read this information a good reminder is important!

Thieves, Your Immune system, and more.

Okay, so as this post is really an updated throw back everything is still relevant but with a fresh perspective.  This section is from the blog post Your Immune System, Some Herbs, and a Few Thieves.

In that blog post, I speak of herbs that help build your immune system and keep it strong while under attack.  Those herbs include: garlic, rosemary, lemon, thyme, elderberry, and echinacea. I really suggest you click the link and read the post as it is beneficial to know about those herbs and how they can help your immune system.

For now, I'll focus on my fire cider recipe and my Herbal Version of NyQuil (realizing I misspelled it in the picture on the old post).

Fire Cider

The concept of fire cider is simple: to keep your immune system strong and to scare the illness out of you.

Fire cider is a potent infusion of herbs in apple cider vinegar.  Although the recipe varies from creator to creator, the basics for the recipe hardly ever change: apple cider vinegar, garlic, lemon, and some spice like cayenne.  My recipe has those and more.

This DIY Fire Cider is easy to make and amazing for preventing cold and flu. Usually you want to make this in the summer because once by time winter comes this will have infused long enough to be extremely powerful!

Ingredients:
  • juice and peel of a large lemon
  • 5 cloves of garlic Allium sativa
  • 1 tablespoon of burdock Articum root
  • 1 tablespoon of rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis
  • 1 tablespoon of elecampane Inula helenium root
  • 1 teaspoon of horseradish Amoracia rusticana
  • 1 teaspoon basil Ocimum basilicum
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 inches ginger

Mix everything together in a mason jar and let sit. Take one shot a day for some mighty immune system boosting effects!  Don't have time to wait for a few months?  Try infusing the cider in the jar in a water bath method using a pot and fill with water until it comes halfway up the jar.

Try out the recipe and let me know how effective it is for you!

Herbal version of Nyquil

When I start feeling the sniffles, a sore throat, and don't think I'll asleep as peacefully at night, I make this blend.  I end up sleeping like a baby and wake up feeling much better!

The point of this recipe is not only to help you sleep better, but to also help fight off the onset of the illness.

Ingredients:
  • 2 tsp of rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis
  • 2 tsp of lavender Lavandula angustifolia
  • 2 tsp of chamomile M. recutita
  • 1 quart of water

  1. Have the water boiling in a ceramic or glass teapot, never metal.
  2. Add herbs to the water.
  3. Turn heat down and simmer until one third of the water is gone.
  4. Let cool.

Take one teaspoon three times daily, or do as I did and take one tablespoon prior to going to bed.

I hope this post helps you this season!  Save it, write it down, do what you have to in order to remember and utilize it!  Also, see those ads above?  If you want to try any of these formulas, try clicking on one of those herbs and if you purchase something you're helping fund the next blog post!

C'mon, it's a win-win there.

Wishing you all good health, see y'all next week.
